about

Indie pop project led by Korean American musician and author Michelle Zauner, formed in Philadelphia in 2013. Originally a solo side project while Zauner fronted emo band Little Big League, Japanese Breakfast evolved into a full band known for dreamy, shoegaze-inflected pop. Zauner is also a bestselling author, with her memoir Crying in H Mart spending over 60 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. The band has released four studio albums: Psychopomp (2016), Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017), Jubilee (2021), and For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) (2025).
